Oh how I love this time of year here in eastern North Carolina! The weather is warming up and walking along the beach is a must for sure. Of course along with the warmer weather, we do need to plan on a shower thrown in here and there and today looks like a day for one. Though it's 65, the breezes are strong and it's overcast. A little mist now and then, but all in all it's a beautiful day.
Just walking around the yard this morning, and decided to take a few pictures of some of the pretty things we see only in the spring here. As they fade into the past though, other things will be in bloom to take their places. For right now though, here's one of the cherry tree flowers again this year. You can see the overcast sky in the background.
I do wish that I had, had the flash on for this one below, as there's a big fat bumble bee on one of the flowers.
Then I saw that the hyacinths are in bloom. The last picture below shows that the white one is just starting to open. Nothing has a sweeter aroma this time of year than the hyacinths.
These will fill out more in the next few days.

The white looks so crisp and clean with the greens.
Speaking of spring and the beautiful weather and all. We went to downtown New Bern this week for a lunch out on the deck of Morgans. Bill's ears are quite sensitive, since he has had several appointments with the dermatologist in the last couple of years. As most of you know, they use a container of pressurized liquid nitrogen to remove these precancerous things. Well, the ears because the skin doesn't grow back as well as it does on the face and all, do become sensitive. With the sun as warm as it was, Bill felt it on the tops of his ears right away. No hat with him which is unusual, so I had to come up with something to cool his ears down! Oh my! What to do! Aha!
Ear hats! They worked even!
You can see the scar under his ear from the first surgery he had a couple of weeks ago. Healing up nicely and the doctor was real pleased with the way it looked the other day when he went for the second and last surgery. Thank you Father. Yes. You can see the stitches under his nose here. They go clear down to his lip. All the swelling is gone now and it looks like it too is healing nicely. Monday the stitches come out.
I finished up another tiny small piece for my spring basket the other day. Need to decide how I'll finish it up, but all the stitching is done. Here are the pussy willows that I miss from back in NH. This little piece is as close as I'll come to seeing any down here.
Are any of you familiar with the blog, http://2012yearofsmalls.blogspot.com/
Every month on the 15th., a small piece will be shown. Anyone wanting to join the fun of stitching along with others can order the kit, or put a kit for it together themselves. I ordered the kit this month as I love the piece chosen. The piece is "Small Token" by Blackbird Designs. Also this month, you could order the kit with Aida or linen, which was nice. I personally enjoy working with Aida more. So my kit came this week and it was wrapped with so much love. Here's a picture of it with my "snips and bits" container.
Inside this outer wrapping, was another pretty little bag with a green net bow, and inside that was the kit!
Look at those beautiful hand dyed threads! Now this is going to be a real treasure when finished.
I really must let all my sweet followers go now, but one last thing before I do.....Riley wanted to play dress up the other day, so here he is with socks on!
Crazy boy actually sat very still while we were putting the socks on, but I shouldn't have expected anything less from this sweet spirited fur baby.
All of you have a day full of blessings. Feel the sunshine on your shoulders and remember to "feel the colors".
Where to start??? The flowers are amazing!!! I am looking out at snow covered trees and grass today! Your stitching is fab! and your sweet dog with his socks on is adorable!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura and thank you so much for stopping in. I was born and raised in NH, and we moved here to NC seven years ago, so I know what you mean about everything being covered with snow still. I used to sit in my kitchen window in NH and look out over our yard knowing that under that snow I would find all my beautiful flowers. Winter seemed so long. Stop back in soon.
DeleteOh, I agree, the flowers are so pretty!!! The stitching kit will be gorgeous when finished with all the overdyed floss. I know you will enjoy stitching it. I had stitched this design on bigger count fabric and put it onto a sewing tin. It came out pretty! I am sorry your hubby has to go through surgery like that. I hope in the near future he won't have to endure much more. Your doggie looks adorable in socks! We thought about getting a dog when we move...but I am really leaning towards another bunnyrabbit..perhaps a Holland Lop eared one this time. Love my bunnies :) Have a Blessed day Linda Lee!
