Hummers Here to Stay

The first one of the season, came on the first of April this year.  Just in case they were playing some kind of April Fool's joke, and waited and watched.  Sure enough.  They've been back every day! I'll have to get some good pictures of them this year.  They kind of do the same thing that a camp fire does to us as we watch them.  We sit and watch them and our minds wander off.  Leaving us in a very relaxed state.  Love it!
The oldest recorded hummingbird was 14 years old.  They often return to the exact same plants that they got nourishment from the year before.  Same nesting tree as well.  They can't fly until their tiny bodies are up to 86 degrees and they have about 1,500 feathers.  Where they all fit on those little bodies is beyond me! They take about 250 breaths every minute during resting!
So now that they are indeed back to stay for a few months here, I'll be doing up enough sugar water for all of our feeders this weekend.  The formula? For every three cups of water, you mix in one cup of sugar.  No need to use food coloring.  Bring it to a boil and then simmer it for a couple of minutes.  When cool, fill your feeders.  To stop ants from getting to the water, I coat the hanger with petroleum jelly.
You all have a blessed day, and enjoy all of His beauty.
