It's a drizzly Monday morning and we have no plans for the day. I think I'll be getting into something real comfy after my shower and stitch a good part of the day away. Maybe some soft music from Enya in the background and a cup of hot tea. I can hear my needle calling my name now! A little more done on my piece.
Now a couple of weeks back, we had gone to the Farmer's Market and picked up a couple of bunches of fresh beets. What a treat! I must say at this point that I never mix my needlework with my cooking! My work stays in my needle room and food in the kitchen. This particular day though, I decided to grab a piece of leftover Aida and before I threw away the water that the beets cooked in,,,,,,well,,,,,you can probably guess the rest. Here is the result of that below. I wish I had tried it with a white remnant, but that's okay. Next time! I thought it was interesting how this came out.
For my birthday, my family and I went to one of our favorite places in New Bern for lunch yesterday. Love it when you walk in and past the kitchen, that you always notice the aroma of fresh cukes for the salads. We all got something a little different and here's Matthew with his lasagna. He gave it a thumbs up
Guy and Robin enjoyed the fun.
Of course Billy and I did. It was a fun time out and a pleasant surprise.
There was a plant sale in downtown New Bern as well, so we took a walk through. I've always wanted a planter full of different salad greens right outside my kitchen door. Yes we are growing our own this year, but I couldn't resist this beautiful pot full. Healthy as can be and it should last for about three months or more. Right up until it's just too warm for it to grow without going to seed.
I saw a necklace this last week on Facebook. It's crocheted, and I decided to give it a try. I should probably wait until it's totally finished, but here it is now. Will be picking up a couple of buttons today to put in the center of the flower and on the "clasp". Made of cotton worsted weight yarn and a G hook. Doesn't take long at all to make it up and the yarn comes in all different colors. Will post it again once I have the buttons in place.
To all my sweet followers. Thank you so much for showing an interest in this blog. Sometimes I think it must be awfully boring, but then I get some dear comments back that is so appreciated. Thank you for stopping in and visiting. I love each one of you.

ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle about the beets...I did that last summer, and was quite pleased with the result. Sorry, no picture... Try some red cabbage sometime...fun results!
Wouldn't it be fun for the two of us to have that cup of tea together? Then we could get all kinds of fruits and veggies together and some fabby! We'd have a day to remember for sure!

What a creative and clever idea to use the beets to dye your fabric! It really turned out quite nice. And I love that latest design you're stitching - what's the name of that piece? ReplyDeleteYou got it Kevin. It's "Quaker Diamonds" and I'm really enjoying the stitch. I was told to try red cabbage on a piece of fabric! When you think about all the different fruits and veggies, there may be no end to what we can come up with!
