A Happy Day

It rained most of the day here in eastern NC, and it came down really hard a good part of the time.  Haven't seen the sun at all, but there's a slight breeze and it's cooler.  Very comfortable inside and out.  Dinner is over and I'm watching our neighbor across the street as he cooks up dinner for he and his two grown kids.  Jeff loves to barbecue and Susan and James loves it when dad cooks, so everyone is happy!  What a great neighbor Jeff has been.  A friend indeed and a hard working single dad for many years now.

Speaking of dinner.  We have been so blessed this year with some great veggies.  Remember that Bill put in three new raised beds this spring, and we got some great soil delivered.  What a difference it has made! Ham tonight with veggies from the garden.  Just look at the beautiful colors of these when I brought them in and rinsed them off.  By the way.  I save any water I cook veggies

in.  Once cool, I use it to water potted plants outside.  There has to be lots of nutrients in it.  I steam a lot of veggies as well.

Something that I have forgotten to tell you my dear friends and followers, is about a sweet gift I got the day that Bill was in surgery.  I was knitting on another scarf and a lady across the aisle from me was also knitting.  We were both working with Peaches and Creme yarn.  I watched her for a few minutes and just had to find out what she was making.  A wash cloth! I told her that I loved the yellow variegated yarn she was using.  Well, she finished it up and then asked me if I had a crochet hook with me so she could work in the ends.  When I told her I didn't, she then told me when I got home to work in the ends, and gave me the cloth! I couldn't believe how kind she was, and here's the wash cloth she gave me.  Isn't that pretty? When I

got home I decided to try to make one up myself, and here's what I came up with.  What great gifts they would make with a nice little bar of soap and tied up with a ribbon.

I ordered a large piece of hand dyed Aida from Sassy's Fabby.  I'll be using it for the "Spider Banner" from Fantasie.  This chart was forwarded to me so, I'll be forwarding it to someone else when I'm finished.  Only needs four colors.  Here's a little peak as to what it will look like eventually.  The gold in the fabric

doesn't show up real well in this photo.

The cross stitching I'm working on at this time is from a complimentary chart from Plum Street Samplers. I'm using one thread color only and it's coming along well.  Here's a picture of the chart and what I have done.  I actually have more done at this time and I'm liking the results.  Chart is free over at Plum Street Samplers, and if you have a hard time downloading it, let me know.

So getting back to the title of the blog here.  It was indeed a happy day.  Bill is doing real well after the major surgery he had a week ago tomorrow.  We had a great day just hanging out at home other than a couple of quick errands I ran.  I stitched and knitted some, and we had a great visit from Uncle Dave.  It's a quiet evening here now and I still have time for a little stitching before heading to bed.

Thank you sweet friends and followers for stopping by.  You all mean so much to me.  Please be safe and take care, and until next time,,,,,,remember to "feel the colors".  Try them on for size! They feel good.

  1. Cute wash cloth. She shared more than the project I'd say. Your veggies look good. Love that you use the veggie water too.

    1. I thought it was neat that you use your bath water as well, and now I have a plastic bucket that I keep in my shower. Any water that goes into the bucket, goes out to the garden.

    1. That veggie is called Summer Squash. It's actually a pale yellow and turns a brighter yellow as it gets bigger. I usually steam them but have coated them and fried them as well. I have a larger one now and will stuff it and bake it tomorrow.

  7. I am so glad to hear that all went well with your husband's surgery! I have to apologize for not leaving you a comment for some time now... I've been going through a kind of metamorphosis and have been all tangled up in my new wooly adventures. I have been by for visits however, so you are not forgotten my friend! What an amazingly sweet gesture of the washcloth! That would make a lovely gift along with a nice hand crafted bar of soap and a ribbon! Hmmm, wheels turning! :D
Hugs and speedy recovery for your hubs!

    1. I have made three or four of them since I was given mine Beth and the first one I did make I sent as a gift to a dear friend. A little bar of soap and some floss and a lapel pin went along with it. They're fun to make and make up quick as well.
